oh, THAT
so yesterday i finally got around to making the infamous salsa verde. the first round of tomatillos had to be thrown away, but more had grown where they came from. my first impression of the stuff was that it smelled AND tasted sort of like ... grass. albeit freshly cut grass, but still. it was very very green, and very very weird.
determined not to give up, i put some on a few nachos and cheese. tasted like nachos with grass on top.
then today, i looked at the recipe again to see if i missed an ingredient (it DOES need garlic, i could tell that) and dang if i did not miss this part:
Cut in half and place cut side down on a foil-lined baking sheet. Place under a broiler for about 5-7 minutes to lightly blacken the skin.
apparently that is the part that makes the stuff taste cooked, and not like a lawn.
oh well. there is always next year to try again.

oh man. i thought this was going to be a post about finding MOLD. the stuff looks kinda like mold, you gotta admit.
He he, I love that you had enough humbleness to post about this, I made apple bread that was awful the other day, I had to throw it and I don't throw anything. It was as hard as a rock...
I knew instantly what you had not done. Man, I wish I had been there.
Think about how the taste of a red tomato changes when you roast it in the oven...
Yep, it kinda looks like grass. I think it was so funny you tried to "dress it up" a bit with the nachos. Maybe, just maybe, that would be all it needed. Good effort though. I'll admit this is nothing compared to some of the doozies I've thrown in the gargage.
Loved your description bob! I am glad they worked out in the end. The nachos look good! K~
hurry up and put on a new post. that bowl of moldy oatmeal is making me queasy.
