among other things that i did this weekend, i decided to use my cool blue canning jars, and organize a bunch of my "whole grains" and beans that were in the cupboard.
i hope you are proud of this display, karen.
for the record, barley is just about the best one of the bunch :)

THERE ARE NO PICTURES!!!
I thought of you today when I was perusing canning paraphernalia at the local grocery. The Blue Bell book finally arrived, but I'm still scared.
there WAS a pic, then it went away.
not sure what blogger did with it.
i just ordered:
Well Preserved: A Jam Making Hymnal
sounds fun, huh?
the blue book is good.
just dig in, buy a few pounds of something, and try it.
the worse that can happen is that you a) throw it away or b) have to eat it all at once because you didn't can it properly...
:)
oh,
ha. just noticed you called it the blue bell book.
which makes sense, kind of, but it's the bell blue book.
:)
noted by a canning purist for sure.
Alright, canning purist. Tell me where to buy that big pot I need to put my jars in.
Your grain display is very nice. Have you bought the Herbamare to go with your barley? I used it in three different recipes last week...
oh.
i bought mine at kmart.
but i'm sure any place like ace hardware, or menards, or any "farmer" store would have them also.
make sure it has a rack in the bottom so the jars don't sit right on the bottom and crack.
plus, you need a "jar lifter" so you don't get burned.
oh, and water.
that's it! can hardly wait to see the first fruits! he he.
I got my canner at a garage sale, in the box with all the extras, rack, lifter, strainer, and even these cool rubber tong thingy's for $8. But, that doesn't really help you, does it?
No, Rani. It doesn't. That is, unless you want to send me yours. :-)
Found jars at the commissary today for three bucks cheaper than Food World. Glad I waited.
