okay, i might be on to something big here.
i have finally assembled THIS thing that has been in my garage since last fall when i got it really, really cheap at Sams. and i'm kind of not sure what to do next.
so i was thinking i would buy one of these.
and lots of lots of these. so that i can shred the bags and compost them!
or not. i tell ya what, this being a natural girl in a manufactured world in not as easy as one might think :)

I have been meaning to start a compost pile for years. Kudos to you. I have the trash and the scraps but no pile. Now I have a ton of branches and leaves...Ryan is cutting down the culprit tree as I type.
if i had more space, i would build a wooden one out of old pallets. then you could put a TON of stuff in there!
did you know you can compost vacuum cleaner dust?!!!
We have a compost pile out at the back end of the yard...on Saturday the neighbor behind us told me that there is a fox and a possum living in it.
I love Sunchips. I quit buying them because I never get any, and it makes me crabby.
dang Sunchips! why do they taunt me so?!
Have you tried the Salsa Sunchips? Be still my heart.
Now I want Sunchips. Mike just finished building my tumbling composter, version 2.0, the other week and I'm enjoying having one again. So much easier than v.1.0 was to use. It is filling up quite slowly, but as summer goes on there will be quite a bit more garden bits to put in it. For now I'm layering kitchen scraps with paper from my shredder.
I was meaning to ask you about that all weekend!! So odd that you put it up after your return. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE my compost dirt. I put it 3/4 of the way up in the pots and then us bagged dirt for the rest. Saves on money and makes your plants super happy. I have little flowers on my tomato plant no fruit yet. K~
kirst! i know. i kind of saw your 'pile' and wanted one ;)) see, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder!!!!
excited to see how long it takes to make compost ;)
oh, ps. loretta. i am kind of afraid to put kitchen scraps in! i don't know why. of course, i want to more than anything ;)
As long as your scraps don't have any meat or dairy in them you are fine. So I'll toss in bread crusts, leftover plain pasta/rice, etc. Mostly though it is just the waste parts of cutting up fruits or veggies. Oh, and coffee grounds. Eggshells too, although you'll get differing opinions on that. If you want to be safe you can just rinse them well, then bake them in a low oven for a bit and then crush them.
