pearfect

in my continuing efforts to recreate the garden of eden here on earth, i decided to buy a pear tree today. this is a seckel pear, mostly purchased for its cold-hardiness, and its dwarfness (10-12 ft).

i cannot even imagine how fun it will be to have a pear tree!!! and to answer the question that i know you are wondering, yes, i do also have partridges back there :)

happy friday blog ones!

And a partridge in a pear tree!

Will it (the tree, not the partridge) get big enough to host a shade garden???

We have a pear tree in our backyard, and we love it! I have to warn you though: the blooms smell gross. Maybe it's just our particular kind of pear tree (Bradford, I think...) Anyway, if you can live with a weird smell for about a week or two, you'll be a happy camper. :)

really? that is funny!!

i live by the stockyards, so i feel my nose can probably handle a funny smell every once in awhile :)

We kept checking Bethany's diaper, then we figured out it was the tree. :) It's definitely not as bad as the stockyards, so you'll be fine. (The Sioux City packing plant just closed, so we're not "Sewer City" anymore. No more stink! :))

The leaves on our tree turn a beautiful color of purple and usually stay on the tree well into Dec or Jan. It's definitely worth the weird smell. Enjoy!

I have very bad memories of our pear tree from when I was little. But I am sure yours will be pretty :)
